Alexa adds new features to help with your holiday shopping

Alexa is one of the most popular smart assistants, and this month it’s becoming even more useful. Just in time for the holidays, Amazon has rolled out three new features to assist with your trips to the grocery store.

One of the coolest new features allows you to scan your handwritten shopping list and instantaneously convert it to an Amazon Shopping list. After opening the Alexa app and heading to the Shopping List menu, simply press the Scan button to start the process.

The other two Alexa updates relate to shopping at Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods Market. The first update lets you find and apply deals instantly using a code in the Amazon app. These deals will populate below each list item and are easy to find in a hurry.

When we tested the feature, scanning the handwritten word “soap” added it to our shopping list and pulled up dozens of different products below the list item — giving us a chance to pick our favorite brand or find the best deal. It’s a surprisingly useful feature, and one should make it easier than ever to streamline your shopping experience and save money.

The final update lets you place a Fresh or Whole Foods Market order directly from the Alexa Shopping List in the Alexa app. This is done by selecting the Shop your list button at the top of the screen, which will automatically load the Amazon app.

Amazon hopes the features will ease the pain that is Thanksgiving shopping. The features will be sticking around beyond the holidays too, so be sure to check them out before your next trip to the grocery store.

Not only will that prevent over-humidification, but it should allow each tank to last longer before needing a refill.

Nanoleaf lit up the stage at CES 2024, pulling back the curtain on a variety of new lighting products arriving later this year. Along with the Essentials Matter Smart Multicolor Lightstrip, Outdoor String Lights, and Permanent Outdoor Lights, the company gave fans a closer look at the upcoming Skylight Modular Ceiling Light and the Orchestrator software -- with the latter bringing massive improvements to Nanoleaf's music syncing abilities.

Orchestrator is arguably the most exciting innovation of the bunch, as it connects directly to your computer's sound source to create a highly accurate lighting performance. This allows your Nanoleaf products to create a light show that's more robust than most other products on the market, which rely on sound alone.

Samsung SmartThings -- an application designed to connect and control your smart home devices -- doesn't quite get the same attention as platforms like Google Home or Apple HomeKit. However, it made some big announcements at CES 2024, and it's shaping up to be a big year for Samsung's first-party platform. Along with enhanced support for TVs and new uses for QR codes, SmartThings is rolling out a brilliant Map View feature, which creates a digital map of your home and shows you exactly where all your connected devices are located.

Here's how it works. Instead of scrolling through a list of all your devices or jumping between groups in your smartphone app, Map View lets you see a 3D representation of your home on your smartphone. Inside this map, you'll find icons for all your smart home gadgets corresponding to their actual physical location. That means you can quickly find exactly which device you want to control without needing to scroll through a long list.
