What’s new on Disney+ in January 2024

New shows might be scarce on Disney+ in 2024, between corporate budget cutbacks and the aftermath of the twin Hollywood strikes. But in January 2024, Disney+ is acting like it has Marvel shows to spare by dumping every single episode of Echo on the same day. That’s not a programming move that inspires a lot of confidence in the next MCU series.

However, the X-Men ’97 animated series may be coming as soon as next month. That could be why the first-ever X-Men movie is returning to Disney+ on January 5. Although, chances are good that most of you were never aware that it left in the first place. Also coming this month are the remaining episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, and a nature special called A Real Bug’s Life, which plays off of the insects featured in Pixar’s A Bug’s Life.

What’s new on Peacock in January 2024

Some streaming services are starting 2024 with a roar. By contrast, Peacock is starting with a teddy bear. Granted, said teddy bear is Seth MacFarlane's Ted, who is making a comeback in a new prequel series with MacFarlane reprising his role from the two Ted movies. That's the big scripted event series of January 2024 on Peacock. The only other Peacock original series of note for the month is The Traitors, a reality competition show that is back for its second season.

At least January has a strong lineup of films coming to Peacock, including Fight Club, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Wolf of Wall Street, Bombshell, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Beyond that, Peacock has a ton of live sporting events and news programs to fill out the schedule.

What’s new on Amazon Prime Video in January 2024

We've officially started a new year, but as far as Amazon Prime Video is concerned, we might as well set our clocks back a year. That's because Prime Video is adding two of 2023's biggest box-office hits in January 2024: Fast X and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. There's also another blast from the past coming to Prime Video in the form of a new Zorro original series that reboots one of the original masked heroes who debuted before comic book icons like Batman.

Speaking of superheroes, Prime Video is getting all of the classic Superman movies this month, as well as Pulp Fiction, No Country for Old Men, and the first four installments of Mission: Impossible. Of course, those films are only on loan from other studios, but Prime Video is doing an excellent job of keeping top-tier titles in its catalog throughout the year. That's one of the reasons we wrote at length about why Prime Video was the most underrated streamer of 2023.
